IECP, which stands for International Experience Canada Program, is a Canadian initiative offering young individuals from specific countries the opportunity for temporary work and travel within Canada. The IECP extends invitations to people from over 30 countries, including but not limited to:
Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, and UK.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the IECP, you must meet the following criteria:
- Between the ages of 18 and 35 (varies by country).
- Citizenship in a country with a bilateral youth mobility agreement with Canada.
- Possession of a valid passport for the duration of your stay in Canada.
- Adequate financial resources to support yourself during your Canadian stay.
- Absence of criminal convictions or serious medical conditions.
- Basic health coverage insurance policy (copy required at the port of entry).
- Minimum crucial funds of CAD$3,000.
- No family members are allowed.
- Fulfillment of requisite costs.
- Compliance with additional requirements.
A Popular Pathway
The IEC program stands as one of the secure and expeditious ways to introduce young talent to Canada from 36 friendly nations. These nations have signed the “Youth Mobility Agreement” with Canada, and depending on the country and specific circumstances, applicants can apply once or twice. The program caters to both profit and non-profit institutions.
Working Holiday
For individuals seeking to work and travel in Canada for up to 24 months.
Young Professionals
Designed for those aiming to gain professional work experience in Canada for up to 18 months.
International Co-op
Geared towards individuals desiring to complete a work placement or internship in Canada as part of their post-secondary education.
The IEC Program is available in all provinces and territories in Canada, with certain regions offering more job opportunities or being preferred destinations for IECP participants.
ITA (Invitation to Apply)
An “Invitation to Apply” must be extended to all qualified applicants before submitting a full application. Applicants have a 10-day window to decide whether to accept or decline the invitation, receiving a registration code after completing the survey.
Validity
The validity of your work permit depends on the sub-category. Working Holiday participants may be eligible for up to 24 months, while Young Professionals and International Co-op participants may be eligible for up to 18 months. Requests to extend work permit validity can be submitted to IRCC by IEC permit holders.
